Server Consolidation Power and Co2 Calculator

Please complete this section
No of Existing Servers to be consolidated
Please enter in the number of servers that are being considered for consolidation.
Power Used By Existing Servers In Kwh Please enter the total power consumption of the servers in use. This figure should be the number of kilowatts. For example if the total power figure is 30,000 watts across all the servers then you would enter 30
No of Target Servers After Consolidation Please enter the number of servers that are to be used to run the Virtual environment (VM's)
Power Of The Target Servers In Kwh Please enter the power in KwH of the servers that will be used to host the consolidated servers. This figure should be in kilowatts, for example if the total is 6000 watts then 6 should be entered
Server Derating Factor %  Whilst all servers have a power rating, not all run at that full power rating. For example a server with a rating of 1000 watts might only run at 750 watts. Thus a derating factor of 25% would apply. An average of between 25-45% is normal depending on the servers function.

Cost of Electrical Units Please enter in the cost you are charged per electrical unit by your supplier. This can be found on a utility bill. If you have more than one rate, such as a daytime and night time rate please enter under both normal and low. £
Number of hours per day used at this unit cost Please enter the number of hours you are charged at this unit rate per 24 hour period. For example if you pay day time rate between 7am and mid night and night time rate between midnight and 7am then you would enter 17 for normal and 7 for lower.

Assumptions:
Every watt consumed generates 1 watt of heat
Air conditioning runs at 100% efficiency: Every watt of heat requires 1 watt to cool
Power Saving for Air Conditioning is based on the power consumption x 1.5. This is an industry standard method for calculating cooling power requirements
Derating Factor is a figure given to the amount of power each server is not using. For example if a server is power rated at 1000 watts using a 25% derating figure would mean it actually uses
750 watts. This applies only to power consumption NOT the usage of the component parts such as the cpu utilisation etc
Carbon footprint is calculated on an average figure of 0.537kg C02 e per Khw used. as set by DEFRA
